Qualifying for next year’s Rio Olympics is on top priority for ace boxer M.C. Mary Kom and the London Olympics bronze medallist may train in a similar fashion which had earned her a medal in the 2012 Games.

Mary Kom, who last competed in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and had won a gold medal there, has resumed her training in Bangalore and will increase the intensity ahead of the World Championship, which will also be a qualifying event for the Olympics, scheduled in February next.

“My training plan is already there. I will be training here in India for a few months.

“Of course, I am planning to go abroad, may be at the same place (Liverpool). But I am not sure (as of now),” Mary Kom said, on the sidelines of a function to felicitate participants in the Special Olympics, here on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old boxer admitted that qualifying for the Olympics would not be easy. “But my training is going on well. I am fully confident and giving my 100 per cent...Only after qualifying, I will give my proposal for the Government's Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).”

Asked whether disturbances in the National federation was affecting the boxers, Mary Kom said, “All the boxers are giving their best and not looking at these problems.

“If the federation works properly, then we will feel much better. If the family gets disturbed, then it can have its impact on the children. They have to understand this,” she said.
