Mankirat Singh sets record

Punjab’s Mankirat Singh (Ropar district) set a new meet record in shot put, throwing to a distance of 16.91 metres in the boys’ under-16 category on day two of the 12th National inter-district junior athletics meet at the BHEL Stadium in Haridwar on Saturday.

The previous record of 16.65m was held by Shakti Solanki of Delhi’s North West district. Solanki, though, is the current owner of the National record of 17.89m.

Sirsa’s Saddam Hussain came second with a throw of 15.44m, while Juber Malik of Sonepat was third with 14.73m.

Other results: Boys: Under-14: Long jump: 1. Vishurt Tiwari (Jaunpur, 6.18m); 2. Shankar Singh (Sundergarh, 5.88m); 3. E.K. Ramin Haque (Cooch Behar, 5.77m); Shot put: 1. Pankaj (Jhajjar, 14.52m); 2. Manish Singh Antil (North-West Delhi, 13.00m); 3. V. Isak (Prakasam, 13m).

Under-16: Long jump: 1. M Arockia Alwin Amal (Tiruchirapalli, 6.51m); 2. K.M. Mushin Majeed (Thrissur, 6.44m); 3. Sunny Kumar (Singrauli, 6.37m).

Girls: Under-14: Long jump: 1. Pushpalata Murmu (Singhbhum, 4.86m); 2. Chandana Karmakar (Purulia Manbhumsa, 4.84m); 3. Geeta (Mahendergarh, 4.62m).

Under-16: Long jump: 1. Bharti Kumari (Bhagalpur, 5.15m); 2. Pallavi Halder (Chandernagore, 5.02m); 3. Divya (Shimoga, 4.97m); Shot put: 1. Anamika (Meerut, 10.98m); 2. Ritu (Jhunjhunu, 10.68m); 3. Krutika Krishna Kumar (Bombay City, 10.63m).
