India’s Kush Kumar and Anaka Alankamony, the top seeds in the boys’ and girls’ u-19 sections respectively, won the Indian junior squash championships in style at the ISA courts here on Friday.
Kush scripted a 11-4, 11-4, 11-4 win over Rishi Tandon while Anaka came back after losing the first game to post a 9-11, 11-3, 11-2, 11-3 win over Aparajitha Balamurukan.
In the girls’ final, Aparajitha put up a grand show in the first game playing a nice forecourt game.
The top seed, who is the reigning Asian junior champion, raised her game by increasing the pace considerably from the second game onwards.
Aparajitha couldn’t keep pace for most of the points as Anaka emerged a comfortable winner.
One-sided contest
The Kush-Rishi contest turned out to be a one-sided affair. Kush toyed with Rishi both at the forecourt and backcourt with power and placements.
In fact, Rishi looked tired in the second game and Kush exploited it with delicate drops.
In the boys’ u-17 final, Vijay Kumar Meena defeated the top seed Yuen Tsun Hei of Hong Kong 11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 11-7.
M. Vijaykumar, Member Secretary, SDAT, gave away the prizes.
