Back in business: The Asian Tour event will mark the return of big-ticket action to the KGA course after five years.

The Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) course is set to play host to two new prestigious tournaments this year. An Asian Tour event will be held in August, and will be followed by a PGTI event in November.

The Asian Tour event is scheduled to be held from August 1 to 4. The arrival of this tournament will excite golf fans in the city, who last witnessed big-ticket action five years ago, at the Hero Indian Open.

“Hosting an Asian Tour event is a massive honour for us. We can expect to see many top golfers in action,” KGA president, Sandeep Madhavan, told The Hindu here on Wednesday.

Madhavan, who took office on Wednesday, added that TAKE Solutions has come forward as the title sponsor. “The prize money on offer will be around ₹3 crore. We are yet to decide on the name of the tournament, but everything else is in place.

Asian Tour Director Kyi Hla Han inspected the course around 10 days ago, and he was very happy with what he saw,” he said.

From November 15 to 18, the Bangalore Open will follow. The tournament, carrying a prize money of ₹1 crore, is set to become one of the richest on the PGTI calendar.

“The launch of the Bangalore Open is an effort by the Karnataka Tourism Department to promote tourism in the State.

Karnataka Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge took a keen interest in launching this event, and we are very thankful to him for the work he has done,” Madhavan said.
