Italian motorcyclist Andrea Antonelli died on Sunday in an accident at a World Supersport Championship race in Moscow.

The 25-year-old Kawasaki rider fell in heavy rains and banged his head against the race course in the opening lap. Hampered by poor vision, fellow Italian rider Lorenzo Zanetti then struck Antonelli on the ground.

Antonelli subsequently died of his injuries at a hospital on the grounds.

Riders and officials later met and decided to not restart the race because of security reasons.
