India’s Harinder Pal Sandhu won his second JSW PSA Challenger 10 title when he beat Egypt’s Shehab Essam Hosny 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) on Sunday.
It was the second victory for the 25-year-old Chandigarh-born Sandhu against the Egyptian, ranked 140 in the world.
It took 50 minutes for the Indian to make it a fine day for Indian squash after Dipika Pallikal thwarted a strong bid from Egyptian Nouran El Torky in the women’s final.
In a 46 minute thriller Dipika beat Nouran 14-12, 12-10, 11-7.
Happy with her first win in the WSA Tour 5 final, Dipika said: “Nouran was a great competition and I enjoyed playing with her after such a long time.
“I am very happy to win the circuit in front of the home crowd and the fact that this is my first tour title of the year, it is all the more special.”
Sandhu staged a remarkable comeback after trailing 1-7 in the first game. A few drop shots helped the Indian take the first game 11-9.
Sandhu did not lose control of the match thereafter and clinched the second and third games conceding seven points each.
The final leg of the JSW PSA Challenger 10 will be played at Chennai from October 25 to 29.
