Jamshedpur to host National meet

The 32nd Sahara senior National archery championship (recurve and compound) will be held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur, from January 24 to 29, 2012.

This meet will serve as the selection trials for those who are aspiring for a place in the Indian archery team for the first Asian Grand Prix at Bangkok (February 14 to 20).

The best five finishers in the men's recurve section will vie for three places in the Indian team, and the best five women will vie for one spot in the women's recurve team at a selection trials to be held at SAI, Eastern Centre, from February 3 to 6.

Retained

The Archery Association of India (AAI) has retained Jayanta Talukdar and the three women archers, Chekrovolu Swuro, Deepika Kumari and L. Bombayla Devi, in the Indian team for all international competition till the London Olympics since they earned the country four Olympic quota places.

Four men and as many women compound archers will be selected out of top eight finishers in both the men's and women's sections at the Jamshedpur National for the Kolkata trials.

Postponed

The AAI has also announced the postponement of the 19th Sahara senior National (Indian round) archery championship scheduled to be held at Raipur (Chhattisgarh) from January 9 to 13. The meet will now be held at the same venue in the last week of March.
