The Archery Association of India (AAI) has named a 24-member Indian contingent to participate in the third Asian Grand Prix and Asian youth championship to be held at Dhaka (Bangladesh) from May 27 to June 1.
The AAI has decided to send its first junior teams in the recurve section to the Grand Prix and the second junior teams to the Asian Youth, both to be held concurrently. However, India's best talent in compound bow section will be seen in action in the GP event. There is no compound competition in the Asian youth.
India did not send its archers to take part in the first Asian GP (Bangkok, February 16 to 22) and the second Asian GP (Vientiane (Laos), April 22 to 26).
The AAI has also named an eight-member recurve squad for the World Cup (Stage II) at Antalya (Turkey) to be held from June 6 to 11. The team underwent two changes with Swuro siblings, Thupovoyi and Chekrovolu replacing National champion Viswash Kumar and Rimil Buruily respectively in the men's and women's teams.
India is not participating in the compound bow section at Antalya.
The teams: For Asian GP: Recurve: Men: Somnath Mondal (Ben), Atanu Das (SPSB), Rajgovind Swansi and Mangal Ho (both SSCB). Women: Rimil Buruily (Rly), Sumita Kumari (SPSB), Dipali Boro (Asm) and Antara Basak (Ben).
Compound: Men: Ch. Jignas, C. Srither and L. Haridas Singh (all SSCB) and Anil Kumar (ITBP). Women: Jhano Hansdah (Jhr), Namita Yadav (Rly), Gagandeep Kaur (Pun) and Manjudha Soy (Rly).
For Asian Youth: Recurve: Men: Prasan Nath (Rly), Mukesh Tamang (SSCB), Pawan Xalxo (SPSB) and Hemanta Basumatary (Asm). Women: Gunjan Kumari (SPSB), Himane Boro, Mainaw Narzary and Pratima Boro (all Asm). Coaches: Ms. D. Saiswari Rao, Gajendra Sharma, Mim Gurung, Rajendra Guiya and Rajkumar Raju Singh.
For World Cup (Stage II): Recurve: Men: Jayanta Talukdar (SPSB), Rahul Banerjee (Rly), Tarundeep Rai (SSCB) and Thupovoyi Swuro (Nag). Women: Deepika Kumari (SPSB), L. Bombayla Devi (Rly), Chekrovolu Swuro (Nag) and Seema Verma (SPSB). Coaches: Limba Ram, Dharmendra Tiwary and Ms. Purnima Mahato.
