Heena Sidhu sparkles

Olympian Heena Sidhu shot 201.1 in the final to beat Malaika Goel by 1.3 points in the women’s air pistol selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Tughlakabad, here on Thursday.

Shweta Chaudhary and Ruchita Vinerkar shot 381 each, but Olympian Annu Raj Singh, who had 380, took the third place.

Anisa Sayyed and Surabhi Pathak were the others to make the air pistol final from a strong field of 75. Albha Oberoi was below par following a bad start and was 14th with a total of 374, a place ahead of Sonia Rai (374) while Sushma Singh (373) was 17th.

In the men’s rifle 3-position event, Satyendra Singh shot 450.5 in the 45-shot final to beat Sanjeev Rajput by 2.9 points. Sanjeevtrailed the leader by five points.

Imran Hasan Khan ended up third.

In centre fire pistol, Pemba Tamang shot 588 and beat Harpreet Singh by five points to top the table, while Gurpreet Singh (580) was third ahead of Omkar Singh and Samaresh Jung. Vijay Kumar was eighth on 568, as he shot two points less than the pioneer in the event, Ashok Pandit.

In junior men’s sports pistol, Samarjit Singh topped with 574 ahead of Rushiraj Atul Barot (569) and Vishwajeet Singh (567), in the absence of Ajitesh Kaushal. — Special Correspondent
