The last minute touches and clean-up of construction work around the Commonwealth Games venues are due to be completed by the month-end, as the Organising Committee takes charge. The Group of Ministers coordinating the policy decisions on the Games has directed all agencies to hand over the venues by August 31.

“This will all fall into place by August 31. The venues are already handed over. The network and technology that are to be installed will be installed by August 31. The testing [of equipment] will commence on September 1,” Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Sindhu Shree Khullar told PTI. The GoM, headed by Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, discussed the progress of the Games Village as well as need to start installing telecom and television networks at various venues.

“There were a number of housekeeping issues that were discussed and the GoM was briefed on several items of pending work. The GoM is now committed to meeting the deadlines,” she said after the meeting.

The meeting was attended by embattled Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Lt. Governor Tejinder Khanna, Sports Minister M.S. Gill and Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar.
