Remarking that wrestlers should not be sitting in the court, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the wrestling federation of India give a hearing to two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar over selection trial for the 74kg freestyle category at Rio Games.
A Bench of Justice Manmohan was hearing the petition moved by Mr. Kumar pleading that a selection trial be conducted between him and Narsingh Pancham Yadav, who has been selected for the preparatory camp for the Rio Games.
Notices have also been issued to the Wrestling Federation and the Sports Ministry over Mr. Kumar's petition.
The High court said it will intervene in the matter only as last resort, and added that India's chances at the Rio should not suffer. Mr. Yadav had secured the Olympic quota place for India last year after winning a bronze in the 74 kg category at the World Championship in Las Vegas.
Mr. Kumar had missed the event due to a shoulder injury. Before moving court, Mr. Kumar had taken the matter to Prime Minister's office.
