The Commonwealth Games Federation president, Prince Imran, on Thursday made light of the trouble he faced while trying to open the Queen’s Relay Baton.
Addressing the daily press briefing, Prince Imran said, “I had a bit of a problem last night as you might have noticed. There is a bit of collateral damage as my thumb got injured.
“I had to press a button to retrieve the message, but could not do it properly. So I gave everybody something to laugh at. It was a great comedy act,” he added.
Raising £3.1 million A total of 3.1 million pounds was raised by the joint venture of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Glasgow 2014 and the UNICEF for the Children of the Commonwealth charity fund, following an innovative appeal during the opening ceremony.
Speaking to the media, a UNICEF spokesman said his organisation was still compiling the figures, especially those from abroad. “As of now, our figures show that the public has been generous and have contributed a total of £3.1 million to the fund.
“No, we had not set any targets, this being the first time that such a big platform like the opening ceremony of a major sporting event was being used to take the message of the children across the world and their needs to the people across the globe. But, I can very well say that the people have enthusiastically contributed.”
The money will be used for various needs of children across the Commonwealth.
