CSK trophy unveiled

Amidst a festive ambience, the Aircel-India Cements-Chennai Super Kings trophy for the second multi-corporate tournaments was unveiled on Friday. The competitions begin on Saturday with cricket leading the other five - table tennis, badminton, snooker, chess and the new addition, athletics to follow. The programmes extend up to the second week of March.

Speakers on the occasion, which included, Rakesh Singh, President, Marketing, India Cements Ltd. K. Sankara Narayan, Head SBU Aircel, Chennai and R0TN, and N. Krishnan, General Manager, Sheraton-Park, underlined the ethos of inter-corporate competitions in fostering the spirit of sportsmanship, team spirit and professionalism. They pointed out the outstanding success of the competitions in 2013, which saw 38 major corporate institutions and 1096 competitors.

Srinivasa Rao, co-ordinator outlined the features of this year’s competitions, which include a special programme for seniors (50+) in table tennis, chess, entertainment at Aishwaryam, a retirement home situated on the outskirts of Chennai.

An added feature this time is athletics, featuring races in 80 metres, 1500 metres and 4x100 relay.

Another highlight of the function was the felicitation of six top stars. They were K. Sasikaran (chess), V. Chandrasekhar (table tennis), Thomas Kurien (badminton), Rafath Habib (snooker), A. Natarajan (athletics) and S. Badrinath (cricket).

Two other associate sponsors are, VGN and Hello (106.4 FM).

Chandrabhan, General Manager, (Marketing), India Cements welcomed the gathering.

The programme: Cricket (from February 1), Table Tennis (Feb.15-16), Snooker (Feb.22), Chess (Feb.23), Athletics (March 8-9), Badminton (Mar. 15-16).
