Chikkarangappa shown the door

National champion Chikkarangappa was felled by local boy Rohan Shroff in the quarterfinals of the Goodricke East India amateur golf match play championship at the RCGC on Thursday.

Cheered loudly by the local crowd, Shroff got one up at the first hole and did not look back thereafter. By the sixth hole he was two up, and went on to win the seventh, ninth and tenth to go 5 up. Chikka, however, turned the show by winning the next three holes (11th, 12th and 13th) with two birdies on the 12th and 13th. Shroff was two up after the 13th, parred the 14th, birdied the 15th and parred the 16th to become three up and won the match with two holes to go (3 & 2).

Among the ladies, overnight leader Vani Kapoor returned with 12 over 84 and occupied the third position with a total score of 158 (74+84).

Gauri Monga returned the best score with five over 77 to lead the field on the final day with a total of 155.
