Chennai-A triumphs in National Cities Team chess championship

Top seed Chennai-A blanked Coimbatore 4-0 to win the National Cities Team chess championship that in Dindigul on Friday.

Chennai-A won six matches and drew one against Bangalore.

There were contributions from Karthikeyan Murali (5/6), Shyam Nikil (4.5/5), P. Lokesh (5/6), V.A.V. Rajesh (6/6) and Ramnath Bhuvanesh (6/6).

Tenali crushed Virudhunagar 4-0 to take second place. Bangalore did the same against Thanjavur to finish third.

Chennai-A, Tenali and Bangalore were a cut above the rest in the 20-team competition. The top teams will represent India in the World Cities to be held at Al-Ain, UAE from December 17-29.

Final placings: 1 Chennai-A 13; 2 Tenali 12; 3 Bangalore 11.
