Kynan Chenai shot his best score of 121 out of 125 in international competition, but ended up 41st in a strong field of 133 in men’s trap in the shooting World Cup in Munich on Saturday. Chenai had a series of 24, 24, 24, 25 and 24.
Former world champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu who had won the gold in the first World Cup this season in Tucson, was unable to capitalise on a good start when he had shot two perfect rounds on the opening day. Manavjit had a series of 25, 25, 22, 23, 23 that placed him 84th with a total of 118.
Birendeep Sodhi, who had also shot 50 out of 50 on the first day, fared slightly better with a total of 119 that put him at the 75th spot. Interestingly, there was a shoot-off for the knock-out phase among seven tied on 124 that saw two-time Olympic champion and world champion Michael Diamond being knocked out. Subsequently, the Beijing Olympic champion David Kostelecky of Czech Republic failed to win a medal as he lost another shoot-off after being tied on 13 in the semifinals.
Rank outsider Antonio Bailon beat the London Games silver medallist Massimo Fabbrizi of Italy 15-14 in the gold medal match. The Spaniard had shot a perfect 15 in the semifinals, and had missed only one bird in the two-day competition.
