Axelsen opposes Badminton World Federation move

December 10, 2017 10:11 pm | Updated 10:11 pm IST - Dubai

Reigning World champion and World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen has criticised the Badminton World Federation (WBF) making it mandatory for the top 15 players in singles and top 10 in doubles to play a minimum of 12 tournaments.

Tire out the players

He said the BWF move would tire out the players.

“I liked the old schedule. We can be better players if we play fewer tournaments. But, that's not what BWF is doing. There is nothing you can do about it.

“Playing 12 tournaments and all the team stuff is pretty stressful and, personally, I would have liked it to be different,” he said. The players’ association would discuss the issue. But, the final decision would rest with the BWF, he added.
