Right then. That just about concludes all the action today. Do join us tomorrow nice and early as Ashwin Achal will be here to take you through the morning session. Until then... adios.

19:22 That was a breeze especially in the last two rounds. Manpreet Singh advances to the final of the men's 91 kg category with a crushing 10-2 victory.

19:18 From the artisan to the artist within a matter of seconds. After surrendering his two point lead, Manpreet gets on his bike to reassert his superiority. The punches and the upper cuts working, Manpreet by six points to two after the second round.

19:15 Manpreet established a 2-0 lead early on in the first stanza and never looked like surrendering it. Manpreet leads 2-0 after the end of the first round.

Manpreet Singh's bout will begin shortly.

19:05 Vijender Singh had an outstanding last 90 seconds in third and final round. After Sattarpour equalised early on in the third half, Vijender went on a scoring spree to finally win the enouncter 10-7. Vijender advances to the finals of the men's 75 kg category.

19:02 Champion boxers do come from behind to win games; and that's exactly what Vijender is doing. Down 2-0 in the early stages of the first round, he has come back to take a 5-4 lead after the second round,. Can the Indian, who does have the tempo, book his place in the final?

18:59 Sattarpour had raced to a 2-0 lead but Vijender got himself on the scoreboard. But Sattarpour leads the bout 2-1 after the first round.

Vijender Singh's semifinal bout is about to start shortly. He takes on Sattarpour of Iran. Vijender is in the blue corner.

Harish Kumar wants to know what happened to Tintu Luka.

She won her 800 metres heat with a time of 2.03.85 and has qualified into the final with ease. That final is scheduled to start about 14:45 IST tomorrow. In fact, India will also be represented by Sinimole Paulose in the 800 metres final.

Let us have a quick look at the Asian Games medals tally (18:30 IST) Read as gold, silver and bronze.

China 173, 93, 86

South Korea 71, 59, 81

Japan 36, 66, 74

occupy the first three places. India are languishing in tenth place with 7, 13, 26.

Prateek Singh says that there are no semifinals in Chess.Whoever is no1,2,3 after the 9 rounds are over will be awarded the medals..

I am inclined to agree with you. The last round - round nine - is on Friday for both the men as well as the women. The team that finishes first will take gold, team which finishes second takes silver and so on and so forth.

18:17 Santhosh Kumar of India beats Masuk by five points to one to progress to the final of the men's 64 kg category.

18:14 Solid display: check. Good defences: check. Earned a point: check. Santhosh has extended his lead by one more to lead by 2-0 against Masuk. Into the third and decisive round.

18:09 Impressive stuff so far from Santhosh. He leads Masuk 1-0 after the first round. Could be a very cagy, low-scoring affair if the trend continues.

18:04 The first of the three boxing semi-finals involving an Indian is about to start. This is Santhosh Kumar against Thailand's Masuk for a place in the final of the 64 kg category. Santhos will be in the red corner.

J. Suresh says that the Indian men have drawn with Iran 2-2 in round 7 to qualify for the semifinal in Chess.

I will have more on this story as and when I get more information.

AP has this early report on Liu Xiang's victory

Former world record holder Liu Xiang won the 110-metre hurdles at the Guangzhou Asian Games, earning some redemption before a home crowd two years after pulling out the Beijing Olympics.

The 27-year-old Chinese athletics superstar crossed in 13.09 seconds in front of a nearly packed Aoti Main Stadium, which seats 80,000 people.

The race was emotionally important to Liu because it was his first appearance at a multi-sports event on home soil since he limped off the track in Beijing.

While Suranjoy settled for the bronze, >Vikas Krishnan enjoyed better fortunes .

>A report of Suranjoy Singh's bronze.

Joseph Pulimoottil of India is not in the top three in the points table in the men's decathlon. The other Indian in the fray - Bharat Singh - is further behind.

17:24 Phenomenal run from Liu Xiang. Commanding from start to finish and finihses with a time of 13.09 seconds - just .22 seconds away from Dayron Robles's world record in this discipline. Liu Xiang wins the gold in the men's 110 metre hurdles.

17:17 None of the Indian runners have qualified for the final of the men's 800 metre.

>Here's a report about the silver won by archer Tarundeep Rai.

17:08 China's Liu Xiang is walking into the stadium... with an all too familiar swagger. He, of course, is the home favourite in the men's 110 metres hurdles final.

17:05 Ouch. India's Bharat Singh did not finish in the 400 metres decathlon. He pulled up half-way and immediately felt his leg. He looks in some pain.

Aplogies. I had earlier said that Mary Kom will have to be content with a silver. She got the bronze, not the silver.

The other boxing semifinals (Indian interest) in store on the second session of the day are as follows:-

Santhosh Kumar in the men's 64 kg.

Vijender Singh in the men's 75 kg.

Manpreet Singh in the men's 91 kg.

16:46 Cancan beats Mary 11-7 in the semifinals of the women's 48-51 kg boxing category. Mary Kom will have to be content with a silver.

16:43 Mary just can't find the momentum and tempo. All of Mary's points have been sufficed with points for Cancan as well. Cancan leads 10-7 with about a minute to go in the fourth round.

16:40 Mary fought back to level proceedings before Cancun regained the advantage. It is 4-3 in favour of Cancan after two rounds.

16:35 Bit of an upset on the cards? Cancan leads Mary 3-1 after the first round.

16:32 Moments before the start of the match between Mary Kom and Cancan Ren in the semifinal of the women's 48kg to 51 kg.

16:28 India's Francis Pathi in action in the men's 800 metres heats. And Francis, who was always with the lead runners, just strived to put that extra at the death.

Will inform you whether he has qualified for the final after all the heats are completed.

Missed out on all the early boxing action? Do not worry as PTI sums it up rather well

Teen sensation Vikas Krishan (60kg) and Dinesh Kumar (81kg) made their way into finals with comprehensive wins but two other Indians had to settle for bronze medals in a mixed opening session of the Asian Games boxing semifinals here today.

The 18-year-old Vikas outwitted Uzbekistan’s Hurshid Tojibaev 7-0 to make the finals where he would be facing China’s Qing Hu.

Later, Dinesh also had little trouble in dispatching Nepal’s Deepak Maharjan 7-1 and set up a final clash against Uzbekistan’s Elshod Rasulov.

However, Commonwealth Games gold medallists Suranjoy Singh (51kg) and Paramjeet Samota (+91kg) had to be content with bronze medals after losing in the semifinals in contrasting fashion.

While Suranjoy lost 5-6 to China’s Chang Yong in a thriller, Samota was all at sea against Zhilei Zhang before the referee stopped the contest midway through the third round and awarded the bout to the home favourite.

16:14 Lots of hype and fanfare surrounding India's TIntu Luka. It might as well be justified as she has won the second women's 800 metres heat with a time of 2.03.85. Impressive time, one must say.

16:10 Sathya Suresh of India wins the third and final heat in the men's 200 metres.

There was some technical problem but all is well that ends well.

15:29In all the excitement, I forgot to add that the Indian men, despite losing their semifinal match against Pakistan in squash, have picked up a bronze in that event. No bronze medal play-off. Earlier, the Indian women also got a bronze despite losing to Malaysia in the semifinal.

That boxing match-up between Paramjeet and Zhang was the last bout in the morning session. The next boxing bout - featuring India's Mary Kom - is scheduled to begin at about 16:30 IST.

15:23 Disappinting run from Mary Thomas. She comes last in the heat.

15:20 Tiana Mary Thomas of India in action in a women's 200 metres heat from the Aoti Main Stadium.

15:12 Zhang toying with Paramjeet. A left, a right, a counter-punch.. you name it and he has struck it. Zhang advances to the final by a whopping margin of 15 points to 3. That, of course, means Paramjeet Samota will get a bronze for his troubles.

Lots of people wanting to know where India stands in the medals table. Cue for me to give a link which allows to have a >look .

15:10 It has been a real struggle for Samota to get his punches going. While he has got on the scoreboard, it does look like he needs a miracle to win it. Zhang leads the encounter 7-2 with about 50 seconds remaining in the second round.

15:03 Zhang having the better of the early exchanges and leads the bout 2-0. Once again I am fascinated by the difference in build; Paramjeet looks dimunitive when compared to Zhang.

15:01 The next of the semifinals featuring an Indian boxer has started. Paramjeet Samota against Zhang in this one.

14:54 India's Tintu Luka will be in action in the second women's 800 metres heat later today - that heat is scheduled to start at about 16:09 IST. Do take your "stick-it pads" and start scribbling.

Narrendiran P. wants know whether the final of the women's 400 metres hurdles has been held.

I have it on good authority that the final is not scheduled to take place today.

14:46 Paramjeet Samota's semifinal clash against Zhilei Zhang in the men's +91 kg category in boxing will begin shortly.

14:43 More news coming through. The Indian women's hockey side has finished fourth after a 1-0 loss against Japan in the bronze medal match.

14:41 Chun Song Yang of North Korea has beaten India's Pradeep Kumar to take the bronze in the men's 66 kg freestyle in wrestling by points.

Virtually flooded with lots of results and updates. Will try to give the latest on everything: -

India beat Qatar 3-0 in a men's placement match (5th-8th) in men's volleyball.

Pakistan beat India 2-0 in the semifinal of the men's team event in squash

India's Valena Valentina lost her bronze medal to T. Yanisa. This was in the 50 kg category in Karate.

14:31 Action coming thick and fast. India's Pradeep Kumar against North Korea's Chun Song Yang in the men's freestyle 66 kg category in wrestling. At stake is the bronze medal.

14:26 Dinesh Kumar has progressed to the final of the men's 81 kg category in boxing after a comprehensive 7-1 victory over Deepak Maharjan.

14:23 News coming in that Rai Tarundeep has lost to South Korea's Kim Woojin in the men's individual gold-medal match at the Aoti Archery Range 7-3. Nevertheless, a great performance from Tarundeep to come this far. A deserved silver for Tarundeep.

14:22 Deepak tried to get on his bike early in the second round but Dinesh got more early points before settlling for a wait and watch approach as the round wore on. He has extended his advantage by three more points - Dinesh leads 5-0 after the second round.

14:18 A very solid first round for Dinesh. Impregnable defence coupled with aggressive punches. The Indian leads 2-0 after the first round. Dinesh is at least 5 inches taller than Deepak.

14:15 And it's a go between India's Dinesh Kumar against Nepal's Deepak.

Lots of action still to coming especially in the boxing arena and the track and field. Enough to keep you pre-occupied for the rest of the day, I say.
