The East Godavari District Badminton Association is hosting All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament in the city for one week from September 1.
The tournament will be held in singles and doubles categories for boys and girls separately. In all, about 1,100 players are expected to participate in the event, from whom 400 players will be chosen for the main draw.
Addressing a press conference after releasing the broacher here, president of the association T. Narayana Reddy, also the vice-president of the Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association, said that the matches would be held at 12 indoor courts including the ones at the JNTUK stadium, DSA stadium and the KBA Academy stadium in the city.
The Badminton Association of India is deputing B.S. Makoti as observer while about 50 technical officers from all over the country would participate in the event. “The budget is expected to be about ₹40 lakh including prize money of ₹4 lakh to the winners,” he said.
“The qualifying matches will be held for the first three days in all the 12 courts simultaneously. Last four days will be dedicated to the main draw,” he said. Organising president of the tournament D. Veerabhadra Reddy, secretary of the district body R.V.S. Anjaneya Raju, advisors K. Bhami Reddy, K. Srinivasa Reddy and S. Bansilal were present.
