MRF Formula championship

December 02, 2010 12:27 am | Updated 12:27 am IST - CHENNAI:

The MRF Formula Championship 2011 will take place across six rounds with the final two rounds being the official support race of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of India.

Featuring a new car with a tweaked engine, the first four rounds will be held at Madras Motor Race Track —spread over two weekends — on February 5, 6, 12 and 13. The concluding two rounds will be held at Jaypee International Circuit, Noida — the venue of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix — on October 29 and 30.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Arun Mammen, Managing Director, MRF, said, “The cost of a car is $30,000 for the entire season. The ‘Arrive and Drive' concept means that a driver just arrives and competes without engineering and other hassles.”

A total of $100,000 is being offered as prize money. The last date for entries is December 31. There is also an ‘early bird' offer (last date: December 21) that entitles a driver to free air tickets and accommodation.

The MRF Formula Championship is being organised by Madras Motor Sports Racing Club in accordance with the regulations prescribed by FIA and Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.
