Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have both received a warning after engaging in a wild duel in the pit box during Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix.
Race stewards said during the race, which Jenson Button won ahead of his McLaren teammate Hamilton, that they would investigate the incident, which occurred on the 19th lap during a pit stop to change tyres.
Vettel had overtaken Hamilton in the pits, but the Briton countered that by increasing his speed.
Hamilton tried to downplay the incident in the post-race press conference when asked about it. “I’m not really sure what you are talking about. As far as I’m concerned everything is okay,” he said.
Vettel, on the other hand, disagreed. “I thought he was trying to slice open my tyres that is how close he came. The road was clearly not wide enough for the both of us. I am not quite sure why he felt he needed to increase speed.” Both drivers received a warning for dangerous driving by race stewards.
