A bunch of the country's talented drivers will fight it out for the third time this season in the 13th JK Tyre-FMSCI National racing championship at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near here, this weekend.
The opening two rounds in Chennai and Coimbatore saw tough races in almost all the classes. The competition was equally vibrant in the popular Volkswagen Polo Cup held in both Pune and Coimbatore.
Much was said about the new-look Formula Rolon in the second round. But, it failed to take off due to technical glitches.
Problems sorted out
With the problems as good as sorted out, the Rolons will be raring to hit the high-speed circuit this time around.
The interesting feature of this year's event is the domination of the outstation drivers over the skilful Chennai drivers.
Karthik sitting pretty
The Polo Cup contest is quite open with Delhi's Karthik Shankar sitting right on top with 94 points. Following him closely is Chennai's young hope Vishnu Prasad with 87 points.
Sailesh Bolisettti of Vishakapatnam, who had his share of glory in the opener in Pune, is in the third slot with 77 points.
Sailesh wants to win both the races here to regain the top spot. Karthik is eager as well to keep his position intact.
Ajay Kini proved his class in the Formula Swift class. The Bangalore youngster now heads the table with 32 points.
The experienced Ameya Walavalkar of Mumbai, who is representing TVS Girling, is seven points behind at 25. Kini's team-mate Goutham Parekh from Chennai is third at 24.
Sailesh of RAD racing, however, has maintained a clean slate in the Super Saloon category.
He is way ahead of the pack at 40 points. On a cumulative count, it will be interesting to see how the veterans measure up to their holding on the positions.
Experienced
B. Vijay Kumar (Prime Racing), the constructor of Formula Cars, is known for his skills and is experienced enough since he is competing in Saloon cars from the late 70s.
He will no doubt be of huge value on his home track to improve upon his third spot (24 points) ahead of second placed G. Siddarth Kishore of Performance Racing, who has tallied 25 points.
Three races, on each in the Formula Rolon, Formula Swift and the Super Saloons, will be held on Saturday.
It will be followed by five races, two in the Polo class, on Sunday.
