Deepak takes day's honours

July 03, 2011 01:43 am | Updated 01:43 am IST - Coimbatore:

Chennai's new super bike find R. Deepak (Preethi Racing) capitalised on a costly slip by K. Rajini (MotoRev India) to take the top spot on the podium in the opening race for Group ‘A' super bikes (600cc) in the MRF-FMSCI National racing championship for two wheelers at the Kari Motor Speedway Circuit in Chettipalayam on Saturday.

It was clear from the start that favourite Rajini would race his way to glory with ease. He did show early signs of it with a flying first lap finish. But the second lap turned out to be a disaster. He went full throttle on the long straight and then had a miserable first corner, which dashed his hopes.

Debutant Deepak, who was right behind Rajini, cashed in on the glorious chance and rode a smart race to the finish line.

“I enjoyed a great start but missed an early gear shift to fall back a little early. I would have caught up with Rajini as well but thereafter it was a different story,” said Deepak, who also worked well with the FLGB Swift in the recently concluded JK Tyre National racing championship.
