Women’s (under-20) hockey: Karnataka in semifinals

Karnataka registered a 3-0 win over Manipur to enter the semifinals of the 39th National women’s (under-20) hockey championship, organised by the Indian Hockey Federation, here on Sunday.

Winger Sayeeda Khanum scored the first goal while C.M. Bhagyasree and C.G. Sushma added a goal each to complete the tally.

In another quarterfinal, Mumbai scored a 6-3 win over PEPSU. Ruqqaiya Shaikh scored a brace while Nimmy Nair, Yogita Pasi, Bhagyasree Agarwal and Tanaz Mohd struck once each. For the loser, Kulwinder Kaur scored all the goals.

Uttar Pradesh also made it to the last four stage with a 2-0 win over Punjab. Kamla Rawat and Kavita Mourya were on target for Uttar Pradesh.

The quarterfinal between Hyderabad and defending champion Haryana, scheduled for Sunday, was postponed by a day.
