The Turkish football federation (TFF) on Wednesday announced that they had parted ways with coach Guus Hiddink after the side failed to advance to the Euro 2012 finals.

Although the side played to a goalless draw against Croatia in Zagreb on Tuesday, they were eliminated in the play—offs after having lost their home leg 3—0 on Friday.

In a statement, the TFF said the contract with Hiddink, which was to run until July 2012, had been terminated with immediate effect by mutual understanding.

The 65—year—old Dutchman started his coaching career in 1982 at De Graafschap before moving to PSV Eindhoven. He has since coached a number of clubs including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Fenerbahce, as well as the national teams of the Netherlands, South Korea, Australia and Russia.

He has been linked with a move to the Premier League and could possibly be heading back to Chelsea in some capacity.
