Goalless draw kicks off league

The St. Joseph’s-CFA senior division league kicked off with a drab goalless draw between Hindustan Eagles FC and SAI here on Monday.

The opening 45 minutes witnessed urgency in attack by SAI which, however, came to nothing. Rather, the only opportunity of note in the first half fell to the Eagles’ Liberian forward Christian Taylor who missed the target around 10 yards from goal after being put through by Jacken Sebastian.

In the second half, SAI created the better chances and should have taken the lead around the 75th minute mark when Ameerudeen headed wide from close distance. Earlier, the league was inaugurated by the director of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, B. Babu Manoharan.

Other results: First division: Income Tax 2 (Regan 72, P. Rajaduli 75) bt RBI 1 (M. Sunder 63).

Swaminathan sizzles

S. Swaminathan’s all-round effort (69 and three for 19) helped Sri Sankara Vidyalaya defeat Corley HSS by 42 runs in the inter-school cricket tournament for the MASC Trophy.

Nitin stars for WGCA ‘A’

V.S. Nitin’s unbeaten 87 enabled WGCA ‘A’ beat Little Hearts CA by 26 runs in a match of the First Flight-WGCA u-10 cricket tournament being held here.

S. Abhishek (65 and four for nine) starred in Maharishi Vidya Mandir’s 98-run victory over Calibre Academy in the TNCA city schools under-14 cricket tournament for the B. Somasundaram Trophy.
