Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Andros Townsend was banned for four months, three of them suspended, and fined 18,000 pounds by the Football Association on Tuesday for breaching betting rules.
The ban was backdated to May 23 and three months of the ban will be suspended until July 1, 2016, pending any further breach of the regulations.
Townsend admitted breaching the FA’s rule E8(b), which refers to betting on matches.
Under the rules, players are not allowed to bet on any match in any competition in which they have played in during a season, or on which they have any influence, direct or indirect.
