Sourav Ganguly to skip opener

October 03, 2015 09:30 am | Updated 11:09 am IST - Kolkata

Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, one of the most visible co-owners of Atletico de Kolkata last season, will not be attending the opening match on Saturday. Ganguly said in Kolkata on Friday that he would be missing the match on Saturday as he has to attend the special general body meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in Mumbai on Sunday.

It may be recalled that Ganguly was absent when the team was formally launched for the second season after its arrival from pre-season training in Spain, raising questions about his involvement with the ISL franchise. The speculations were later doused by another co-owner, industrialist Sanjiv Goenka, who said Ganguly is “still a part of the franchise like he was in the previous season.”
