The Chennai franchise of the ISL has snapped up another foreign recruit — former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre.
New beginning“New club New league New beginning! @ChennaiyinFC @IndSuperLeague,” tweeted the former French international.
The 37-year-old defender last played for Portland Timbers in the MLS, but an anterior cruciate ligament injury kept him out of the team for most of the 2013-14 season.
He was subsequently released from the squad in January this year.
“Mikael, with his experience, will add great value to the team. I think Chennai has outdone other franchises in terms of marquee signings, despite starting late,” said Prashant Agarwal, CEO, Kshatriya Sports, who was instrumental in finalising the deal.
Materazzi arrivesMeanwhile, the team’s player-manager Marco Materazzi, who arrived in Bangalore from Milan on Saturday, met the squad members.
He will conduct his first training session on Sunday.
