Two goals by Wayne Rooney helped Manchester United beat West Ham United 3-0 to close to within one point of leaders Chelsea in the English Premier League.
Michael Owen came off the substitutes’ bench to score the third goal as United bounced back from their defeat by Everton at the weekend.
Champions United, chasing their fourth consecutive league title, sit just one point behind Chelsea, though the London side have played one game less.
Rooney took his tally for the season to 27 with two more well taken goals, the first a header from Antonio Valencia’s cross on 38 minutes.
And the same combination brought about a second headed goal for the England striker 10 minutes into the second-half.
Owen then came on as a substitute and clipped the ball into the corner for the third goal, leaving West Ham still just four points above the relegation zone.
