India striker Abhishek Yadav scored two first half goals as Mumbai FC beat Mohun Bagan 2-0 in the ONGC I-League match on Friday. With this win, the Mumbai side moved out of the relegation zone.

The home team notched up its sixth win, aggregating 29 points in 26 matches.

The Kolkata side finished fifth with 36 points.

Yadav's first goal was a penalty conversion, awarded for an infringement on Subhash Chakraborty.

He netted a rebound off the goalkeeper for the second, applauded by home fans at the Cooperage.

Sporting Clube demoted

At Kolkata, Sporting Clube De Goa was relegated to second division despite beating host Chirag United SC 1-0 at the Howrah Municipal Corporation Stadium on Friday.

The Goa side got the winning goal in the second half off substitute Anthony D'Souza to earn full points.

Sporting, which was at the bottom of the table before the start of the final round, could only climb one step in the final standings.

United SC seemed out of sorts as Sporting Clube dominated from the beginning.

With forward Nathaniel Amos missing some good scoring opportunities, the Goa team failed to take the lead in the first-half.

The second session saw more misses from the visitor, which finally ended the goal drought in the 66th minute when D'Souza found the net off a cross from Adil Khan.

Easy for Churchill

At Margao, Churchill Brothers, which lost the crown to Dempo SC, thrashed visitor Air India 5-1 in their final match to earn a consolation victory and finish second at the Nehru Stadium.

Following Pune FC's draw against Dempo on Thursday, Churchill needed an outright win to claim the runners' up spot and the host settled down quickly with Odafe Okolie and Felix Chimaokwu putting the rival defence under immense pressure.

Shillong Lajong relegated

At Mapusa, Shillong Lajong failed to avoid relegation as it went down 1-3 to Salgaocar at the Duler ground.

Lajong, which needed an outright win to avoid relegation, was down by a goal in the first period as Salgaocar scored through Milagres Gonsalves in the 32nd minute.

Salgaocar then increased the lead through Ekene Ikenwa in the 82nd minute.

Ekene then sealed Lajong's fate when he scored his second in the opening minute of injury time.

Lajong, however, got the consolation when Gurung scored in the last minute of the added time. Shillong Lajong, thus, ended its campaign with 26 points.
