Manchester United chief executive David Gill will stand for election for a seat on UEFA’s executive committee next year.

Gill is looking to replace fellow Englishman Geoff Thompson on European football’s ruling body when the election is held at the UEFA Congress in May in London.

Eight seats on the executive committee headed by Michel Platini are up for grabs next year.

The English Football Association board nominated Gill as its candidate on Thursday.
