Mainz have signed South Korean national team captain Koo Ja-Cheol from Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg.

Mainz said Saturday that the 24-year-old midfielder Koo receives a contract until 2018. No details were given about the transfer fee.

The 35-times capped Koo came to Wolfsburg in 2011 and played on loan at Augsburg from January 2012 until June 2013.

“We made a big effort to get him because we see in him the ideal player to strengthen our squad. We are delighted that we were successful,” Mainz general manager Christian Heidel said.
