Jerome Champagne, a former number three at FIFA, on Monday in London announced his intention to run for the presidency at the ruling football body in 2015.

“I will be a candidate,” the Frenchman told DPA .

Champagne was a right-hand man to current FIFA president Joseph Blatter and worked at FIFA for 11 years before leaving abruptly in 2010.

Yet to confirm their intentions, the Swiss Blatter may stand for another re-election next year while another Frenchman, UEFA president Michel Platini, is expected to challenge him.
