The Indian football team arrived here on Friday, ahead of its 2018 World Cup preliminary joint qualification match against Iran on September 8.

The 23-man squad landed in the afternoon from Pune; Holicharan Narzary, Lalchhuanmawia, Karanjit Singh, Brandon Fernandes and Sanjiban Ghosh were those from the national camp for the 28 ‘probables’ who were left out.

India will look to improve quickly after being held to a goalless draw by Nepal in their friendly on August 31.

“We have great support here; the fans really get behind the National team,” coach Stephen Constantine said on arrival.

“I hope we can give the fans something to cheer about. It will be a very difficult match, but that’s the time you can discover whom you can depend on.”

Meanwhile, Iran, ranked 40 in the world, thrashed Guam 6-0 in the qualifying match in Tehran on Thursday, and is expected to arrive in Bengaluru on Sunday.
