Indian Super League which saw stupendous success in the inaugural year 2014 is scheduled to start on October 3, 2015.
The first match will be played between last year title-holder Atletico de Kolkata and Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.
There were changes in the teams as the franchises purchased new players and also retained some.

- » At first, it was announced that bidding for the eight Indian Super League teams would be complete before the end of 2013.
- » Due to the rescheduling of the league, the bidding was moved to March 3, 2014.
- » Finally, in early April 2014, the winning bidders were announced. The selected cities/state in April 2014 were Bangalore, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune.

- » The inaugural season began on October 12, 2014 at the Salt Lake Stadium when Atlético de Kolkata defeated Mumbai City 3–0. The first goal was scored by Fikru Teferra.
- » The inaugural final was held on December 20, 2014 with Atlético de Kolkata becoming champions after defeating Kerala Blasters 1–0 at the DY Patil Stadium.

Mohammed Rafique nodded home the most important goal in the Indian Super League as Atletico de Kolkata won the inaugural edition.
