Serie A side Napoli were docked two points and had captain Paolo Cannavaro suspended in a sports corruption trial, the Italian football federation (FIGC) said on Tuesday.
Cannavaro and reserve footballer Gianluca Grava were suspended for six months for not alerting authorities about the attempted fixing of the Serie A game between Sampdoria and Napoli on May 16, 2010.
Former Napoli goalkeeper Matteo Gianello was banned for three years and three months for proposing Cannavaro and Grava to favour a win from Sampdoria, who prevailed 1-0.
Napoli were also fined 70,000 euros (92,000 dollars). Club and footballers are expected to appeal against the ban.
The Naples side now have 31 points and slipped from third to fifth place, 10 points behind leaders Juventus.
In previous match-fixing trials, Siena were handed a six-point deduction, Atalanta were docked two, Sampdoria and Torino one.
Juventus coach Antonio Conte on December 9 ended a four-month sidelines ban received for not reporting a rigging attempt while he was at Siena.
