Argentina striker Sergio Aguero will return for Manchester City in the crucial encounter at Liverpool on Sunday, the club confirmed on Friday.

Aguero has been out with hamstring trouble for a month but manager Manuel Pellegrini said he would be fit to start against the leaders as City look to boost their title hopes.

Liverpool are two points clear of Chelsea at the top with City another two points further back, although they have two games in hand.

“Sergio is OK, he worked all week with the squad normally,” Pellegrini said.

“It’s very important to have him back. He’s a top player.

“It’s very difficult for their defence to stop him and so it’s very important for us.”
