Double for Loyola College

Loyola College clinched the football and volleyball titles in the Pegasus Trophy all-India inter-collegiate tournament, organised by Christian Medical College (Vellore), recently.

In the football final, Loyola blanked VIT University (Vellore) 4-0 while in the volleyball summit clash, Loyola overcame Sathyabama.

The results (finals): Football: Loyola 4 (Gowri Dasan (2), Charlas & X. Sathesh) bt VIT 0; Volleyball: Loyola bt Sathyabama 25-22, 25-27, 28-26.

Chess tournament

Modern Senior SecondarySchoolwill organise the fifth International-ratingchess tournament at its premises at Modern School Road, A.G.’s Office Colony, Nanganallur. from August 6 to 11.

The total prize fund is Rs. 1,00,000 and players registered with the All India Chess Federation (AICF) and Tamil Nadu State Chess Association are eligible to participate.

The entry fee for unrated players is Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 800 for rated players. The entry is free for WFMs, WIMs, FMs, IMs and those with rating of above 2,300. Entries close on July 31.

Sherien & Sunil triumph

Sherien Ryan and Sunil Verghese clinched the North-South direction title in the Madras Gymkhana Club Open bridge tournament held at the Club premises here on Wednesday.
