After having dished out a humiliating loss in the first Test here, Sri Lankan skipper Angela Mathews now has his eyes firmly set on P. Sara Oval where he wants to “go for the kill.”
“It is a transitional period for us,” he said. “But I thought it was a great team effort. It gives us the morale boost to go forward.”
Mathews admitted that he didn’t see the victory coming and that it was a great turnaround.
“We were down and out. Chandi’s [Dinesh Chandimal] innings gave us some sort of life. We batted really poorly in the first innings and really didn’t give ourselves or our bowlers a chance.
“To be honest it was not an easy wicket to bat on. We didn’t use our feet. We can’t play forward defence all the time and more often than not it goes to silly point or short leg. So we had to use our sweeps, reverse sweeps. When it came to the second innings we had nothing to lose.”
