Morne Morkel, who made a remarkable recovery from a right ankle sprain, attributed the miracle primarily to his strong desire to be part of Jacques Kallis’s last Test.
“We got to know of his retirement about two days back, and it was a shock and that probably helped about 10 per cent in my recovery. I badly wanted to be a part of this game since I have played with Jacques for the last six to seven years,” Morkel said here on Thursday.
The South African speedster also called the Durban pitch a ‘sub-continental one.’
“The ball after 30 overs looked like it was bowled for 60 overs! We have to use reverse swing and all that. It is a tough wicket to bowl on,” Morkel said.
Joe Dawes, India’s bowling coach, said: a lot of criticism directed against the Indian attack in recent times has been ‘unfair.’ In the nets prior to this match, Ravindra Jadeja had briefly bowled seamers, and asked to throw light on that, the coach said: “Jadeja is a tremendous athlete, and his main skills remain batting and left-arm orthodox. We were just trying him out bowling seam-up and he was pretty close to the stumps.”Probed on R. Ashwin’s omission, Dawes clarified: “In these conditions, we thought Jadeja could fit in.”
