Offie Vishal Sharma (five for 42) helped Hyderabad restrict Assam to 181 in the first innings on the first day of the Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy cricket championship on Friday.

Leg-spinner Akash Bhandari chipped with a three-wicket haul.

In Bangalore, K.L. Rahul and Kunal Kapoor scored unbeaten half-centuries as Karnataka made a steady beginning to its match against Gujarat.

Rahul remained undefeated on 94 and Kunal 58 as Karnataka reached 190 for two at stumps on a rain-hit opening day.

Skipper Sachin Baby struck an ubeaten 113 to help Kerala reach 293 for six at stumps against Tripura at Thalassery on Friday.

In New Delhi, L. Suryapprakash hit a fine 100 (190b, 17x4) to help Tamil Nadu reach 199 for three on the opening day of its match against Delhi.

The scores:At Hyderabad: Assam 181 all out 80.2 overs (S.A. Roy 58, Vishal Sharma five for 42, Akash Bhandari three for 39) vs Hyderabad 22 for no loss in 11 overs.

At Bangalore: Karnataka 190 for two in 51.5 overs (K.L. Rahul 94 batting, Kunal Kapoor 58 batting) vs Gujarat.

At Thalassery: Kerala 293 for six in 90 overs (Sachin Baby 113 batting, K.S. Monish 38 batting, Vinoop Manoharan 31, M.K. Akshaya 30, B. Roy three for 93) vs Tripura.

At New Delhi: Tamil Nadu ‘A’ 199 for three in 91 overs (L. Suryapprakash 100, V. Ganga Sridhar Raju 42) vs Delhi ‘A’.

At Rajkot: Vidarbha 410 for four (A. Wankhede 128, U. Patel 83, A. Sharma 66) vs. Saurashtra.
