Karnataka captain Robin Uthappa was fined 50 per cent of his match fee by match referee Subramanium Ramesh for banging the ball on the ground after catching Ajit Agarkar off A. Mithun on the third day of the Ranji Trophy final.
Agarkar, who pointed out the incident to the umpires by waving his fingers even as he departed, was docked another 50 per cent of his match fee. He had already been fined half his match-fee for showing dissent at an umpiring decision on day one.
And paceman Dhawal Kulkarni lost 50 per cent of his match fee for showing his fist to Stuart Binny and R. Vinay Kumar after he dismissed them on day four.
It was an ill-tempered final and Mumbai captain Wasim Jaffer conceded, “Obviously things became heated on occasions. I am myself a calm guy but not all of them are like me. This was a big game. At time the emotions come out when you feel bad. You need to understand that. At some stages, I feel, things went out of hand.”
Uthappa said, “Sometimes tempers do fly in an important game but I believe we handled it better. We play our cricket very hard and when they gave it hard to us, we paid it back hard.”
The fine paid by the players diminish before the prize money. Mumbai won Rs. two crore for its triumph. Karnataka took home Rs. one crore.
