M.S. Dhoni said that the rain-break during the early part of the Australian chase affected his team’s chances in the ICC World Twenty20 Super Eights game here on Friday.
“The rain stoppage (seven minutes) affected our plans, especially the spinners. They could not grip the ball properly and if you saw, they bowled a few short balls. It became difficult in the end.
“We should not look at this emotionally and should focus on giving our best in the next two games,” the Indian captain said.
The skipper reasoned out his selection choices and said: “In our last game (against England), our bowlers did well and we felt we can go in with five bowlers. As for dropping Virender Sehwag, it was a tough decision. Two players were thought about but I am not taking the other name here but ultimately it is about horses for courses and you pick the best possible combination.”
Shane Watson, when asked about India’s spin-plans coming unstuck due to the drizzle, said that it is about ‘making do’ with the available conditions.
“You just have to adjust, there was a drizzle in the last few overs we bowled. Look, they have world-class spinners and some of those chaps have got me out in the past.
“Bowlers like R. Ashwin and Harbhajan (Singh) are world-class. It is good that we got a few fours initially and then we built upon that,” the Australian all-rounder said.
