Ponting joins Mumbai Indians

The new Mumbai Indians captain Ricky Ponting had a first look at some of the team members during a practice match at the Wankhede Stadium here on Friday.

Glenn Maxwell, West Indian Dwayne Smith and majority of the full squad would be available for the second practice match on Sunday. Ponting will have his first media session after the match.

Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga will join the Mumbai Indians team at Bangalore. Malinga who tops the IPL bowling honours list with 83 wickets is in the Sri Lankan team for the Twenty20 international against Bangladesh to be played at Pallekele on Sunday. Malinga is Sri Lanka’s vice-captain for the Twenty20 internationals.

MI will practice at Bangalore for three days (April 1-3) before its opening match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 4.
