Tiruchi, June 30. Vignesh S. Iyer (138, 98b, 19x4, 2x6) and G.R. Nithin (136, 129b, 13x4, 1x6) made merry as strong contender Kancheepuram scored a thumping 303-run win over Sivaganga in the TNCA under-16 inter-district cricket tournament for the P.R. Thevar Trophy here on Thursday.

After Vignesh and Nithin put up a strong opening stand, worth 216 runs, and set up a healthy 381 for eight for Kancheepuram, Thillak bowled the spell of his life by picking five for 0 to take the team into the next stage. The young left-arm spinner bowled 6.5 overs without conceding a run.

Solid show by Amal & Murugappa

At Tuticorin, B. Amal (143, 122b,17x4, 4x6) and K.S. Murugappa (130, 111b, 12x4, 5x6) played vital knocks for Pudukottai against Perambalur. The duo set up a 264-run partnership for the third wicket and, with it, steered the team to a convincing 97-run win over its opponent.

In another match, S. Manikandan (six for 46) bowled Tirupur to a five-wicket win over host Tuticorin.

Fiasel in fine form

At Thanjavur, medium pacer L. Fiasel Ahamed bowled a deadly spell as the host raced to a 204-run win over Cuddalore.

Shashanth scalps six

At Tiruvannamalai, Shashanth Rajagopal (six for 29) did the damage yet again as Krishnagiri dispatched the host by five wickets.

Meganathan makes merry

At Tirunelveli, a fine all-round show by K. Meganathan (five for 24 & 31 not out) enabled Karur to score a ten-wicket win over Virudhunagar.
