IPL: Visas sanctioned reluctantly

March 16, 2015 12:11 am | Updated 12:11 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Government is reported to have reluctantly decided to sanction visas for cricketers and officials connected with the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be held from April 8.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s application for visas to cricketers of various franchise teams and some officials connected with the broadcasters had been put on hold for sometime. According to sources, the Sports Ministry had requested the BCCI to allocate some part of the profits from the IPL towards promotion of other sports in the country.

With the Board having refused to comply with the request, the Ministry has decided to forward the visa request for clearance to the Ministry of External Affairs since there is little time left for the commencement of the IPL.
