The Indian team has been fined by Match Referee Chris Broad for being three overs short of the target at the end of the second Test against the West Indies in Barbados.
A team is fined 10 per cent of its match fees for every over it fails to bowl in the allotted time. The captain is fined double that amount.
Accordingly, India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined 60 per cent of his match fee while his players were docked 30 per cent.
The offence is contrary to Article 2.5.1of the code which relates to minor over-rate offences. The penalty was accepted by India without contest so there was no need for a hearing.
Dhoni had also been booked for slow over rate during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town earlier this year.
If a particular team is guilty of not maintaining the over-rate on three occasions in a 12-month period, the captain would suffer an immediate suspension of one match in the same format of the game.
With the Test series in England looming, Dhoni will have to be careful with the over-rate.
