Gony and Sran shine

Pacemen Manpreet Gony (five for 13) and B. Brainder Sran (four for 27) bowled Punjab to victory over Orissa in an Elite Group ‘A' match of the Ranji Trophy at Mohali on Saturday.

Orissa was bundled out for 73 in its second innings.

The host, then, made 70 for two to romp home by eight wickets.

In Delhi, left-arm spinner K.P. Appanna claimed six for 68 in the second innings to finish with a match haul of 11 scalps as Karnataka outplayed Railways by an innings and 51 runs. Railways was skittled out for 162 in its second innings.

At Mumbai, Abhishek Nayar's 155 (retd hurt), Rohit Sharma's 100 and Suryakumar Yadav's 87 took Mumbai to 439 for five at stumps against holder Rajasthan.

The scores : Elite Group ‘A':At Mohali: Orissa 251 & 73 in 34.5 overs (M. Gony five for 13, B. Brainder Sran four for 27) lost to Punjab 255 for nine decl. and 70 for two in 18.5 overs. Punjab 5, Orissa 0.

At Delhi: Karnataka 347 bt Railways 134 and 162 in 59 overs (K.P. Appanna six for 68). Karnataka 6, Railways 0.

At Mumbai: Rajasthan 530 vs Mumbai 439 for five in 109 overs (A.M. Nayar 155 retd hurt, R.G. Sharma 100, S.A. Yadav 87); At Meerut: Uttar Pradesh 362 & 175 for four in 58 overs (M. Kaif 53 batting, A. Alam 55 batting) vs Saurashtra 281 in 91.4 overs (J.N. Shah 112).

At Dharamsala: Himachal Pradesh 195 & 200 in 50.1 overs (S. Sriram 87, S.B. Wagh four for 76, S.R. Singh five for 41) lost to Vidarbha 142 & 257 for seven in 77.5 overs (H.K. Badani 83 not out, S.V. Bahutule 61). Vidarbha 5, Himachal 0.
