Rahul Dravid expressed his desire to play an international match at the D.Y. Patil Cricket Stadium, nominated as the sixth best in the world by Architect’s Journal , United Kingdom.
“This is my first visit to the campus and stadium here and I have been blown away. When Abey Kuruvilla invited me three weeks ago for this event, I accepted it straightaway. When people tell you good things about something, you come with certain expectations. Many cricketers told me to see the facility here. I have seen a match played here on television. I hope I get to play an international match here before I finish,” said Dravid addressing close to one thousand students and guests after inaugurating the website www.dypsa.in at the D.Y. Patil University auditorium here at Nerul, Navi Mumbai on Monday.
Accorded a traditional welcome at the campus the Indian middle order batsman was taken around the D.Y. Patil University campus and the sports facility by Vijay Patil, President, of the D.Y. Patil Sports Academy and Abey Kuruvilla, former India seamer and Chairman of the BCCI junior national selection committee.
“It’s amazing that Vijay Patil had the vision to create an infrastructure like this five years ago and when not knowing whether a cricket match would be played here or something like the IPL would happen. This is a fantastic facility for all sports disciplines and certainly is better than most of the cricket venues in India. It’s truly magnificent,” said Dravid.
It’s speculated that the India–Australia ODI may be played here in November.
